25 Years ago today I booked my favorite band at my college, the Ziggens. Miguel and I worked it out that Sublime, Friends of Jesus, Juice Bros, and the Coltranes (Brad Ziggens roomate) would open. Skunkfest '95! Opie did the OG flyer and i did the clip art one for around the campus. It took a ton of work and several months to make it happen. By the time Feb 3rd rolled around, Date Rape had become the second most requested song in the history of KROQ. Over 1500 kids showed up to a venue that held under 400 people. A lot of them got in. The ones that didn't partied in the parking lot. The dean of the school showed up and threatened me six ways to Sunday, and while the Ziggens were finishing up, called the police and had me booted off campus. I, a student, was banned from any CA college campus for life. Bills poured in from all over campus claiming damage (all bullshit). The school paper put me on the front page saying all sorts of libelous things, including that I skipped town with money (also bullshit). It took two weeks and a pretty badass lawyer to get all of this reversed, but in the end it cost me a semester of my life. but it gained me a lifetime of street cred. As Miguel likes to say "everyone has their little piece to the Sublime puzzle. This is mine.
